    A Living Education

Our curriculum is designed to engage and inspire young minds. We believe in the power of "living" books, "living" things, and "living" ideas to ignite curiosity and foster a love of learning.

Inspired by Charlotte Mason's philosophy, we prioritize the use of rich, narrative texts over dry textbooks. Students delve into captivating stories and informative nonfiction, sparking their imagination and critical thinking skills. Through reading, narration, and discussion, students develop a deep understanding of complex concepts and learn to express their thoughts clearly and persuasively.

Our math and science programs emphasize real-world problem-solving and conceptual understanding. By focusing on the "why" behind mathematical operations and engaging in hands-on scientific inquiry, students develop a strong foundation in numeracy and a deep appreciation for the natural world. Students not only learn the core curriculum required by PA State Standards but also learn to truly understand math and its applications in real life. Math becomes "relevant and compelling." Students can strategically engage with math in college courses, in the trades, and in day-to-day situations.

    Broad & Balanced

Our curriculum offers a broad and balanced education that fosters intellectual curiosity and personal growth. Inspired by Charlotte Mason’s philosophy, we provide a “banquet” of subjects, including science, math, English, history, philosophy, visual arts, music, Spanish, Shakespeare, and physical education.

In addition to our broad curriculum, we employ a structured literacy approach to ensure that all students develop strong foundational reading and writing skills. By combining the best of traditional and contemporary methods, our literacy program empowers students to become confident and skilled communicators.

    Accountability & Accreditation

The Charlotte Mason Institute and Pennsylvania’s Department of Education monitor our curriculum and its implementation. The Charlotte Mason Institute is a nonprofit organization that brings together relational educators from across the globe to accredit schools, train teachers, and tailor curricula for public, private, and home schools. A non-sectarian Charlotte Mason curriculum is an educational approach rooted in the principles of British educator Charlotte Mason, designed to provide a rich, well-rounded, and developmentally appropriate education without incorporating religious instruction. The curriculum will meet or exceed all Pennsylvania Department of Education’s current state standards.

Our Approach Emphasizes:

  • Students learn through high-quality, narrative-based texts—called living books—that spark curiosity, imagination, and deep thinking rather than relying on dry textbooks or rote memorization.

  • Character development is supported through intentional habits such as attention, responsibility, kindness, and perseverance. These habits are taught through modeling, consistency, and reflection.

  • Regular time outdoors, nature walks, and hands-on observation develop scientific understanding, environmental awareness, and a sense of wonder.

  • Lessons are intentionally brief to nurture attention, prevent burnout, and allow time for reflection, creativity, and exploration throughout the day.

  • Art, music, poetry, and handicrafts are integral, not supplementary,  every child deserves a broad and beautiful education. Students encounter artists, composers, and poets from diverse backgrounds and cultures.

  • Students “tell back” what they’ve learned in their own words, demonstrating comprehension, retention, and critical thinking.

  • Item descripThe curriculum is built on the belief that children are whole persons with natural curiosity and the capacity for deep thought. Instruction is designed to honor their dignity and individuality.

Evidence-Based Core Programs

  • Singapore Math

We use Singapore Math to provide a rigorous, conceptual understanding of mathematics. This program aligns well with Charlotte Mason principles because it emphasizes:

    • Deep comprehension over rote memorization

    • Visual models and concrete learning before abstract concepts

    • Problem-solving and mathematical reasoning

    • Short, focused lessons that build skills steadily and confidently

Singapore Math’s structure supports students in developing strong number sense and the ability to think mathematically.

  • Really Great Reading

For literacy instruction, we use Really Great Reading, an evidence-based foundational reading program grounded in the science of reading. It offers:

    • Systematic, explicit phonics instruction

    • Strong decoding and encoding practice

    • Assessments that identify early skill gaps

    • Multisensory instruction that supports all learners

This aligns with Charlotte Mason’s belief in clear, intentional instruction while still integrating rich literature and narration throughout the school day.
